09/29/19 National Public Lands Day Lower Salt River Cleanup

For National Public Lands Day, we teamed up with NEEF (National Environmental Education Foundation), REI, and the Tonto National Forest to host a Lower Salt River Land & Water Cleanup at Phon D Sutton Recreation Area. 416 volunteers, including 118 youth volunteers, helped us remove 3,980 pounds of trash (1.99 tons).

Established in 1994, National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and general health.

Thanks to our friends at Arizona Outback Adventures and REI we had volunteers in kayaks removing trash from the water in areas volunteers on foot could not reach. Thank you for continuing to partner with us and for bring kayaking guides and tandem kayaks out for volunteers.
