Women’s Day Lower Salt River Cleanup

On Saturday, March 7th, 2026, we hosted a Women’s Day Lower Salt River Cleanup on the Tonto National Forest, staging at Phon D Sutton Recreation Area.

173 volunteers, including 33 youth volunteer, helped us remove 1,517 pounds (0.76 tons) of trash & invasive stinknet & cockleburs from the Lower Salt River. Thank you to everyone who helped us make a positive impact on the river!

Volunteers spent the morning with us exploring the riverbanks & trails along the Lower Salt River at multiple recreation sites, removing scattered trash along the way.

Volunteers also helped in a major way by pulling & bagging invasive stinknet & cockleburs that destroy biodiversity & increase fire hazards. It was awesome to see so many bags of stinknet leave the river!

Salty Scuba Squad divers & their above-water support team removed 97.10 pounds of trash (included in our event totals) from underwater at Sheep’s Crossing.

Thank you to the US Forest Service Tonto National Forest for their help & support!

These awesome volunteers pulled & bagged stinknet from another rec site along the river!
