U.S. Forest Service Chief’s Honor Award

Last week, we received this 2022 Chief's Award plaque and took a few photos in the Bush Fire burn scar at Four Peaks with our Dedicated Restoration Team. In March 2023, Tonto National Forest Employees and Partners, including Natural Restorations, the National Forest Foundation, & Arizona Wholesale Growers were honored at the U.S. Forest Service Chief’s Honor Awards Ceremony for our work on the Four Peaks Restoration Project.

🌵Award Category: Sustain our Forests and Grasslands

Congratulations to Forest Service employees Kelly Kessler and Bec Veerman, along with partners Rebecca Davidson from National Forest Foundation, Nicole & Justin Corey from Natural Restorations and Shawn Cox from Arizona Wholesale Growers for their work on the Four Peaks Restoration Project. Since 2020, Tonto National Forest district personnel have been teaming up with partners to restore native vegetation in the Bush Fire burn scar.

Thank you to everyone at the U.S. Forest Service Tonto National Forest, National Forest Foundation & Arizona Wholesale Growers for everything we have accomplished together! Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this multi-year project that means so much to so many, we are honored to be a part of it!

We are working on some exciting replanting projects that benefit the Bush Fire burn scar on the Tonto National Forest. Stay tuned!

The 2020 Bush Fire is the 5th largest wildfire in Arizona history. Flames carried through 193,455 acres of the Tonto National Forest and devastated multiple ecosystems. Unfortunately, most of the fire occurred in the Sonoran Desert, an ecosystem that has not evolved or adapted to wildfires. With the impact to over 80,000 iconic saguaros, Natural Restorations and our partners are dedicated to the long-term efforts to restore and revegetate portions of the Bush Fire burn scar.
